After reading other posts of people who've bought non runners off ebay and found themselves out of their depth, I have disregarded common sense and done it myself:lol:

An 010av sold as a working spares/repairs ??

It fires up ok and then dies.

All I've done so far is pop off the clutch cover(lots of black/burned looking sawdust) and wash the filter(really dirty)

It's racing at idle (before it died) so was going to remove clutch and clean/inspect.

Not had the muffler off yet, that's next job.

Has anyone got a workshop manual for this saw?I've an owners one so ok in that respect.

Any idea on the cause of it dying? Carb maybe?

Mr Stockbridge is probably on the money,Strip the carb down & clean it,inspecting the diaphrams,pop the filter out the tank & clean / replace & blow the fuel pipes through,run it on 50/1 with a good chainsaw 2 stroke oil,good luck,they are a nice little chugger saw.

OK, update.

Had the muffler off and it was completely carboned up, worst I've ever seen.

No spark arrester gauze so need to replace that. so scraped and scrubbed it clean.

Good news is the piston is mint:thumbup:

Couldn't get the damn clutch off:lol: yes I know it's clockwise off!:sneaky2:

After about 7 or 8 starts splutters and dies it kicked in and is running really well now:thumbup:

Will a good dowse with wd40 help getting the clutch off?

Found an issue with the oiler though, it's leaking a fair bit. Hoping it's an easy fix or I'll need to replace

Bar and chain are very poor but will be using it for carving so not really an issue.

So far so good, I may have got a bargain after all:biggrin:

Box it up, the spanners are ready:thumbup:

 

Clutches on old saws can be a bit of a PITA to get off, use a stihl double ended stop although a long spark plug with the end ground off will suffice as a stop - the plug is vertical and in the center of the piston so on this type of engine, a solid stop is OK.

 

On tough ones, I place the saw on the ground and use a decent quality socket and wrench and increase the force until it spins off - clockwise to undo!

 

WD40 probably won't help but worth a try.

 

These old saws are reed induction - pull the carb off to clean it but also make sure the reeds are not cracked. Also check the piston is OK.

Sussed the oil leak, after cleaning all the crap off I spotted one of the 3 screws on the oiler is missing. Hoping that's the only cause.

Spud I should 've had it sent straight to you mate:laugh1:

Tried to get it going again and it won't now, oh the joys of DIY.

Can anyone put a link to some exploded diagrams please?

I'll take a look at the carb tomorrow.

Sorry if I'm beginning to bore you all but I have more questions.

I got the clutch off and found the needle bearing shot, which is a simple fix. Now there's no ID on the spur sprocket but looking at the parts list (supplied by spud,ta) there are 2, a 7 tooth and a 6 tooth. This one is a 6T. My question is what is the difference between them? Is it like a low pro?

 

Also, there's no ID on the chain either, I assume it's picco. It looks of a similar size to some oregon 91vxl I have.

 

Lastly,(for now:sneaky2:)

I gave the carb a bit of a clean and although the membranes seem ok the top gasket has fused with the carb and left a wafer thin slice when it popped off.

The saw is wanting to cut out if left at idle, do you guys think a carb kit is in order?
