Hi everyone this question must have already been asked a thousand times,

Im looking at getting a top handle chainsaw, which one do i go for and why .

this saw will not be used that much untill more work comes in ive already got a sthil saw MS290 so know ther reliability but which top handle do i go for ?...cheers

Hi fuda, I'm old and have joint problems but still climb, I'v got a stihl 192 top handle saw 10" bar on it,(new model) The last 3 200's I had were all poor saws, so I changed to the lighter 192 , I have tweaked it a bit but its the best top handle saw I have ever had , I have not tried the new 201 so I can not comment on that one. I also don't use Husky's. :thumbup1:

200t - 16'' bar. I thought it was a bad idea until I used someone else's but it is perfectly balanced and you hardly ever need a bigger saw sending up. And you can reach a bit further one handed if that's your thing... Once you have tried it you won't go back.

Agree 200t with 16" 192t with 12" :thumbup1:

Yes, MS200, good solid little saw, lots of grunt for a small light saw.

Technically the weak points are the carbs, clutch side cover and a couple of components in the chain brake but they are easy to work on once you have had one apart, spares are very readily available and they have more grunt than most other toppers.

Some of the Japanese ones are lighter but just don't have the same torque and cutting power.

12" will let the saw keep revs up even in the hardest wood, 14" is a good all round bar - never used one with a 16" but can understand the earlier comments.

I am not a climber - just repair and tune saws:thumbup:
