I always thought you have to be bona-fide self employed running your own business and paying your own N.I contributions before you could get cover. Though I could be wrong..?

Naaah

There is no legislation in place to enforce that so the insurance companies are free to take money of whoever they like.

The idea of getting insured on a day by day basis is a non starter. The paperwork would be prohibitive. For most insurers you need to provide evidence of relevant competencies and evidence of LOLER inspections.

So what are you going to do, carry on dodging around on the fringes of the industry bending the rules and breaking laws, or step up and join the big boys?

Never been asked for LOLER, can't remember if they asked for NPTC when I first took it out, I've been with the same insurer for 12years+.

I do a fair bit of private work on weekends and holidays etc.

If I wanted to get the cheapest 'work at hights' insurence who would be the best company to go for. What do u guys do or pay for insurence?

Festive cheers:beer::beer:

Your best bet would be to ring up a few insurance companies (Trust & Lycetts were the last two i used) and ask them. All the insurance forms Ive ever filled in were tailored for business use with them wanting to know my turnover, employees etc. Whoever you go with these days the forms are virtually identical.

Ive never seen a Non business use policys but apparently there available.

Care to name them?

I have done plenty of inspections for people who had to have it for a new insurance or renewal. Trust seems to be particularly diligent.
