And if I call the HMRC I would sooner pay a little for the call than get some muppet on unpaid works experience.

Half the time that is Exactly what you get! not unpaid, granted, but someone who isnt trained, who is working from a set script and only has a short term contract they know will end in 3 months, if you need a definate answer ask for their line manager, as thats how far up you need to go to get someone who isnt a temp.

Ha, wouldn't trust the line manager either. When I worked in a call centre a few years back, it a customer kicked off and demanded to speak to the manager, it was often just passed to a work colleague at a different desk!

If I am calling a big company like BT, Gas, Council, Tax etc. I make sure I have been to the loo, have a big mug of coffee and biscuits, all the information I need and take notes from the start of the call to the end.

I used to try and do it when the boys were chipping from the mog and end up throwing a similar tantrum to you Hodge lol.

I grade my customer by the level of information they leave me and by how well they follow the instructions left for them, by doing this you can filter out the time wasters imo.
