i never got on great with clarks oil i prefer the oregon chain oil although i did get it from clarks.

I've been using bio for about 15 years. I have just gone back to using normal Oregon oil, I can't justify paying double the price. I paid about £45 for 25l from FR Jones and got free delivery.

Been using standard vegetable cooking oil of late, including for milling and it's been fine.

i'm glad you said that, as i've got a free supply in 25l drums so wasn't keen to have to buy any 'proper' stuff!! Was unsure if it'd stick the pace of milling but if it works with you then it'll certaintly work for me!!!

If you are going to do a serious amount of milling, particularly of dry timber, it might be worth getting the auxiliary oiler kit (your bar is pre drilled for it). It's not a system I've got on with that well in the past (I reckon it would be better if physically pumped, not just gravity fed) but when it stays clear and blockage free, it works well.

 

Regarding the veg oil, we went and got a 20lt drum from Costco for £18.40. A good bit cheaper than the genuine stuff and seems to work fine.

I brought the aux oiler at the same time, seemed sensible for long bars, but do agree not the ultimate answer!

 

Using veg oils also has the advantage of you've always got something to fry the sausages in at lunctime!
