Do we need waste carriers license?

Recommended Posts

Your help would be greatly appreciated :001_smile:

As im going for Arb Approved I want to get everything in place 100% perfect before the assessment, there is a section in the notes regarding waste carriers license, my thoughts have always been that green waste is a get out clause from this license :confused1:

Is this correct??? :thumbup1:

Do you have one...

As far as I understand, it's not required for green waste only until after Dec 2013. We have one though, because we do a lot of hard landscaping and often have rubble and stuff to take away. One thing to bear in mind - perhaps it's worth informing your insurance company that you are transporting waste, as this is something that might be checked when you get pulled and paperwork being gone through.

I don't know the ins and outs, but you don't need one if what you are moving has economical value in some shape or form

You need one for scrap metal. That has a value. My mate spent hours on the phone to the EA, final answer was yes you need one.

He also got an exception so he can burn logs in his log burner!!!!

You did need one, but you wont from sometime soon, not sure of the date!!

There is an exemption for tree work products, a form to fill in, but its free. I have a waste carriers, but on my AAAC assessment I was told I wont need to renew it if I ge the exemption.

Paul Smith is the person to get all the real details from as he had a hand in sorting it out for arb produce.

A very good point.

Also you may not realise, but even if you have a WCL you also need paper work for duty of care of waste to go with it.

I.E, records of what waste, how much, where it came from, and where its gone on given dates etc. Your WCL is a waste of time without it.

The actual point is though, and always has been, we are not carrying waste! (or shouldnt be) everything we take away can be considered as a product.

It could be considered waste if you take it to landfill and pay for disposal ( I guess some do that) and you would need a WCL for that.

Personally every load of woodchips I take goes to somewhere/someone who wants woodchips. Its is not waste.

I have had a WCL for several years and always considered it to be a waste (sorry) of money, but the AA have now made the EA see sense and the exemption is now in place for tree by products.
