Monster Oak in North Lakes

I won't pretend that I know much about what you two are on about, but it really was an exceptional tree from our point of view. As soon as I saw it in the distance, I could tell it was a monster.

What was nice was that there was no indication that it was in decline - good, full crown with no die back, no visible to pockets and even some interesting fusing of secondary stems (over 3ft in diameter) a little higher up the tree.

My guess on age is high 300s, early 400s of years old?

that would be a conservative estimate IMO:thumbup1:

it is a fine and healthy tree, its probably that fusion you describe that stopped the cavity from weakening the core of that mighty union of the twin stems:001_cool:

Ha. No it did cross my mind but was thinking more dryadeus. As we saw oaks with both of those and fistulina. It seemed pretty symptomatic.

A few oaks I've come across first pic is of an old oak pollard which we gave a light reduction and removed any dead wood as it was on a golf course second tree was nxt to the first tree and had split out so we reduced the remaining tree to balance it back up still doing well four years on.
