If its a good tractor and you decide its too big I would be interested I am looking for a larger tractor at reasonable money. Have a look at tractordata.com it give all the specs for most of the tractors.

Load was level, it looked so bad we loaded it towards the back more before we left !

Is the towing point on the vehicle fixed?

If its ajustable move it up till the vehicle and trailer are both level, if it's fixed think about either replacing it with an ajustable one or move it up so the trailer rides level.

Fit uprated springs to the defender. Raiseing the hitch will just overload the rear axle I think max on rear axle is about 1800kg. Nose weight on trailer should be 150kg or you will damage the trailer hitch. If you make the trailer tail heavy it will give you a brown trouser moment at about 56mph.

Hitch can be moved up about 40 mm another set of holes but it's not a proper slide one, the landy already has helper springs as its a 3.5t one. I thought moving the hitch would just squish the landy down more, but if that's the solution so be it, I always assumed those adjustable hitches were to make the hitch meet the drawbar rather than the other way round!

Two thoughts one your spring sets inc helpers could be worn out. Second thought we have the same trailer and filled with rings to the top of the sides is 2 cu metres or 2tonnes of timber if tightly packed. If you sneak it up past the mesh sides and hide it with some ply you will have 3-4 tonnes on which will squash any springs
