blue bar question info/advice

I've noticed on ebay that a good deal of chainsaws for sale have the chain bars gone blue

I thought that blue bar rails were the sign of a bar being forced to cut with a blunt chain hence the heat build up and bluing of the metal....

Sort of makes sense with ebay saws as well!

i think in stihl litrature it states 1 bar =2 sprokets = 4 chains so for the life of 4 chains you have replaced the sproket twice and after that the bar would probably need replacing

this is what have read so dont know if its practical

many thanks albert

if at first you dont succeed sod it and put the kettle on

Certainly the pro bars will go a fair bit longer than x4 chains.... maybe the cheaper laminated ones this would be more realistic.

I think Stihl are perhaps hoping people will change their bar more regularly :001_smile:
