I've fitted 2 stoves and a rayburn, How easy depends on the situation, fitting the rayburn took about 2 weeks with all the plumbing and building work and relining the flue. On the other hand I fitted a stove for my Gran the other day and it took about an hour.

You need to ask: do you have an opening big enough to accomodate the stove?

does the flue need relining?

are you fitting a boiler stove?

If its Yes, No, No then it should be fairly streight forward.

we just had 1 installed and the company installed it too close to the wall and it caught the timber stud work and insulation alight within the plaster board one night. woke up at 6 to find kitchen and lounge filled with smoke!

put my boots on and kicked holes in plaster board stuck the hose in and cooled it off. we are in the middle of having the 14 grands worth of damage repaired by the insurers.

if your gonna do it make sure its done proprerly

The fire place is the right size and the flue would not need relining.

Not planning to fit a boiler either.

Could I fit it alone or would some sensible assistance be required?

Scary story, I think from memory it has to be at least 150mm in all directions from any combustible material, like a stud wall.

They 're pretty heavy, a second pair of hands might be handy.

it was bad considering the guy was hestas registered and issued a safety certificate on the installation. 10 days later it went up in flames. been 6 weeks so far without a oven, hob or kitchen wall!
