Spliced 8mm was a tad stronger than the stitched but the difference was 1kN so nothing I would worry about. 8mm OP btw. I think the stitched blew at 16kN so were never going to experience that amount of force and survive anyway. And also it was pulled end to end so configured in a way we won't ever really use. I've never seen a stitched or spliced eye fail in a properly configured test.

Got bored in this rain so wanted to break something.....

 

 

Cool. What that shows to me is that the double fishermans is a very secure and safe know, just not as strong as the spliced eye.

 

Mind you, in typical use with a hitch and both ends secured by double fishermans to krab through a HC etc, then the load on the knots is halved. I really can't imagine how a fall would break it at all., unless it was a massive fall. Even then, the climber would break before the rope in the knot.
