A planing hull has a maximum speed no mater how many Hp you throw at it. I had a 17' ski boat with a single 125Hp which was only 10-15 mph less!

Regards,

Steve.

Good intelligent post Steve.

However, it's got loads of horse power so it must be best, surely!

I have two boats a little Walkerbay RIB with 10hp Honda, and my pride and joy a new 2012 Hobie Adventure Island, I've had two of these, my first one was fully fitted with Garmin GPS, Garmin fish finder, RAM rod holders i'm not sure if i'll fit the new one out, as I prefer sailing to fishing in it. The Adventure Island can be sailed, peddled or paddled, in single hull mode, Polynesian style with single out rigger or in full sail mode

Hi lee what size is your small rib and can you a mile out sea on a good day in it thanks Jon

Here's my old one, HMS Dumbarton Castle, with a spurious Arb connection. I took that photo off Grytviken/King Edward Point in South Georgia, Antarctica. On a previous patrol down there she'd helped clear a large amount of drifting timber, BIG old logs presumably lost overboard from someone long before, that was blocking the abandoned whaling station (and cruise ship destination) of Stromness Bay up the coast of South Georgia. What could get craned onto the flightdeck was removed back to KEP otherwise the really big stuff was towed round into another bay.

Quite nicely, some of the timber found its way back to the Falklands where it was milled by some ingenious army engineers on a homebuilt mill and used to furnish various messes, including DC's wardroom and SR's mess bar tops!
