But you do work at places near where other people work, like on other peoples turf? And other people work on your turf.

I know it's a pain in the arris, but when we've been fencing, other fencing firms leaflet doors in the same road. A lot of these fencing firms are builders who are lacking in work and just trying to make a living. It's just life.

I don't have a "turf".

We don't have a turn either, but we do have the local area around where we are based. Due to apathy on our part over the past year, and thinking we wouldn't lose a couple of big customers, we have a tough time so far this year and have found our local area (turf) being made smaller and smaller by more firms coming in from further afield. We have just started advertising and doing leafleting a bit further afield to try and spread out again. If I planned to leaflet "Leaflety Avenue" in the next town, and I noticed another firm working there, I would still go ahead and leaflet regardless, being pretty certain that they would do the same. I've grown to accept it for what it is, which is why I no longer cry when I see another landscaping firm working for the lady over the road.

I have never "cried" when I see other firms working, I'm not bothered if they work next door to me :)

I only posted about the leaflets as I thought it was a rather sad thing for that Co to do.

I would never act in such a way, I'd be embarrassed.

Another "get yourself known out there top tip #372" talk to your local WI, garden groups etc. Who loves gardens more than this kind of people? Write up a nice little speech, with slideshow, presentation and so on and sell yourself, it works, and I know for a fact that the WI pay you for your time. You do have to be "approved" first, but then they will talk to other WI groups in your area if they like what you do. You have a business, you are your business, sell yourself. Stand out!!

I know exactly what you mean Huck, and I very much doubt it was 'coincidence' that they just happened to be dropping leaflets when you were working.

Nowt wrong with leaflets, but that is low.

As you say, there may be some disappointed customers when the boyos turn up in there trainers and Husky braces in a panel van with there big ladders lashed to the roof with blue telecom rope and fire up their Ryobi saws....

But then again, they might be a good legit firm who are trying to get work to save laying off employees. Who knows.

I found being the best tree cutter and climber in the World gave me a natural advantage:)

My mog is not even sign written, thats why the neighbour had to ask if the leaflet was mine.

We were there on a recommendation from the private school that the customers children attend.
