I doubt that it is possible to identify these desicated last year's fb's with either of your suggested options .

Maybe not, but it was a mere suggestion that the member may wish to look at either the guide on the forum or purchase the app if they were interested. I could just as easily recommended looking in a book or ringing Mr Croft in person to pop around and take a look

Plus, having the old desiccated fungi in the flesh, as apposed to a photo, theres more chance of then identifying an image of a fresh specimen, IMO.

No, not a bit negative, realistic. The suggestion for the two possible species came from me and future comparing of last year's annual fungi to pictures in any book or other medium will have no result at all, because you'll never find photo's of old and desicated fruitbodies in any of them.

That is actually true, Tony. I have no hang ups about admitting my lack of knowledge in a particular field, as I don't know everything. So a fungi guide is useful to me, and to others who are like me...willing to look up information and learn.
