Stinky wood question

i,ve been given some firewood and its fresh pop n stinks like dog muck ???? its rank my clothes everything stinks now so should i leave it to dry out first ??

If its pop and it stinks of dog **** do you really want to burn it???

 

Pop is awful firewood anyway

 

Although if you want more pop firewood for free im sure you will inundated with the stuff

Pop often stinks like that when wet.

 

Get it nice and dry and keep it dry, burns great!!!!

its because rather than having phenols to protect the "ripewood" poplars have "bacterial wetwood" the smell is due to this and will not last long.

how long will it last if i split it tomorrow and store it in my log shelter to dry etc and will the smell go and not stink the house out when i burn it on my woodburner

The smell is a result of it being wet, get it dry and it will not smell.

thanks i will dry it all out and just mx with the other logs then just hope it dont rott etc as i would like to make use of it after all the effort picking it up cutting splitting etc
