Never used 1, not something that shouldnt be recommended but

1 if you don't know where the end of your line is, then stay away from trees especially with a chainsaw.:sneaky2:

2" the knot gets caught round epicormic, forks etc and that makes me mad.

Use a long enough rope, simples.:001_rolleyes:

Rab always puts them on my rope when his grounding and I take them out:biggrin:

:laugh1: I know that one for sure.

Every time I coil a rope be it climbing or rigging a sneaky bit will always find the nearest twig of a nothing, decide to form a knot then continue to wrap itself 42 times around said offending thing!

In response to OP, i asked same thing and I think the barrel knot is a winner.:thumbup1:

All true stuff. I have had the stopper on my lanyard catch in forks before and it does make me mad too. I'm going to change from a 5m to an 8m and ditch the knot I think.

On side strops, I used to use rope that had a big spliced eye on the end so it would never get by the prusik and now I use a flexible steel strop it's the same, it will never get through the clogger.
