used my lasses vw lupo to remove brash and logs from a fallen dead oak job, - landrover was in garage for clutch that week - needed the cash asap , i did hoover it the day after

Topped a conny hedge, logged a fallen birch, removed it all with farmers MF and wooden trailer that didn't tip.

£125 for 1pm if I remember.

The day before I was on £4.30 an hour.

That was 13 years ago. :)

First what I would call proper contract was weeding a 5 acre strawberry field by hand. Got £100 Needed help from 5 mates variously and the farmers tractor and trailer. Got bored so we took the tractor down the pub.

The job took about 4 days and we each got about nothing bar a sun tan and there was a river nearby we used to swim in after work.

The farmer was into selling windsurfers so he let us use one for the rest of the summer. I think he knew he had got a good deal.

Still make stupid mistakes on pricing but never so bad as that.:thumbdown:

Needless to say self employment proper didn't happen till a few years later.
