Dead Euc dismantle coming up - advice?

Alright Neil! How's tricks mate? No more progress yet I'm afraid!

Called in for a look at this Euc this evening... it's only a babba!

Bit of an awkward spot, will be a pain in the backside to climb, grown up tight against a conifer, but once above that it's Silky territory practically all the way.

Frost is what got it, bark has already started to plate off quite badly, been dead over 12 months so looking at it I'd be surprised if there was any green left in it.

Plenty of other trees around to rig off if necessary but in all honesty I think I'll cut & chuck the crown, drop a couple of lumps down to the conifer then straight fell the pole into the gap.

I was expecting something big! Couple of hours even for me by myself!

Cheers all, will let you know if anything goes wrong!

Refreshing change to hear a tree being 'bigged down' instead of '200 foot monster that noone will climb' etc.

Fair play mate, hope it goes smooth, let us know (pics are always good).

If you don't, we will mourn your death.:001_tongue:

I'll be sure to let you know if I meet my end in a horrible fire ball.... :thumbup1:

Thats right about the hinge,it will be all but useless if the eucs wewll dead, work small & if you have to hinge out a piece thats a bit larger than you would want give the gob cut a wide face where it forms the hinge,( so the two gob cuts are not meeting at the hinge & you have to create a flat face of hinge between these two,cut into the sides of the hinge a touch to stop it from tearing down & opening up down the trunk ( making the hinge the week point),& back cut so its level with the top of the wide hinge face.

all this aiming to cut the gob so it closes with the removed top near horizontal,it will tear the hinge if it holds that far,& you get time to chase it once the section is going the right way.
