domestic christmas discount

What about the clients that would rather pay alittle extra for your quality work over the cheapest quote ? It will send them the wrong message, not everyone wants the cheapest quote.

Depends on your market I think.

I've had a lot of customers that dont care who you are, what tickets, insurance or skills you have and just want the cheapest quote.

I used to work for a guy who has a very reputable business and he told me that when times were quite he would often call customers up who he had previously given quotes to and would ask if the work had been done. If not he would offer a bit of a discount etc, says he got quite a few jobs back.

If there is quite a few different things to do on the job you can allways say if we dont prune, fell such and such a tree it would be cheaper etc.

I've never tried it myself but there are loads of jobs we dont get where you drive past and think "we priced to fell that and they have just had it pruned" etc.

If they havent called you back after a couple of weeks then there is a good a chance you didnt get the job so theres no harm in asking imo.

They are the sort of clients, no matter what the economic climate, i wouldn't want any way. Usually the worst payers.

It's horses for courses as you all know, if it's a small back garden with one tree in, a take down, and no chance of repeat work then go for it.

Personally i wouldn't go back on the price as you priced it that way for a reason.

I know exactly what you mean but sometimes beggars cant be chosers. Only if I'm desperate for the work or its a very easy and straight forward job will I take this type of work on.

If I had loads of contract work that was paying good money then there are loads of jobs I wouldnt even bother to price up.

So what do you do? Jack it in and do something else?

Lost a job the other month to a multi millionaire who's trees, hedges we prune every year. He wanted us to drop £200 of a £1600 job so we didnt bother and he got someone else in. If it was something like droppping a load of small trees or heges then maybe we would have but not taking down a big chestnut and about 5 other semi mature trees. £1600 was cheap enough imo.

As you know I aint have a go at anyone, just my views :001_smile:

Just as a quick thought if in tesco, asda etc you see "roll back" items do you think "theres no way I'm buying that it was 10p more expensive the other day they must be ripping me off, think i'll buy something more expensive instead" :001_tongue:

Discounts work.

Yes I agree but the supermarkets and retail in general have a 100% mark up.

What's your profit margin 10-15% If your lucky ?

Any was twas just my opinion i'm not starting another handbags at dawn lol :001_tongue:

I have a few quotes excepted that have not heard back from in maybe 4-6 weeks.

Do you mean that the quotes have been "accepted" already? If so then surely its up to you to get in touch with the customer and tell them when you are coming.

If they say they would rather wait till after christmas, I would suggest that you offer a work now pay in Jan Feb 2009 scheme, for no additional charge. Definately don't drop the price if its already accepted.
