domestic christmas discount

I have a few quotes excepted that have not heard back from in maybe 4-6 weeks. With domestic work potentially going quiet ever the christmas period (maybe from Dec 15th onwards), I was wondering if to contact the customers in question and offer them a good discount as I would rather be working for slightly less than not at all over christmas. Concerned that people may ignore till new year and then aspect cheaper price anyway. Any other potential issues with the the proposed idea??

Sounds good as long as you make it clear that the offer is only valid on work carried out over a specific period.

Personally I cant stand people calling and offering anything. If I want something I,ll ask, sit tight with youre original qoutes. It may sound a touch desperate.

 

Fair enough.

 

However calling the customers might promote a response,especially if they have delayed the work for other reasons.If they found the cost higher than they may have expected and the work is still not done,you could offer a discount? Or offer cost reducing options like keeping the wood or chip.

 

Well worth five minutes of your time.IMHO

Never ever go back on a price unless you have a very justifiable reason for doing so...

 

The customer will react in one of two ways...they'll question why you didn't offer them that price in the first place at think you are trying to rip them off. Secondly next time right when your snowed under with work they'll still expect the cheap rate.

 

Discounting rarely works well in a service industry IMO.

 

What about the clients that would rather pay alittle extra for your quality work over the cheapest quote ? It will send them the wrong message, not everyone wants the cheapest quote. I used to phone around checking if people had recieved there quotes ok that brings the matter back to their attention and can often result in booking the job :)
