Poplar will I've seen it first hand! the shoots grew down and then bent round to grow upright and within a few years the post that started off at 4ft ended up being 20ft.

I was told that willow is the only species to swing both ways - from a vascular sense.

 

others won't due to the systemics.

 

I have no idea if this includes or excludes poplars - but ive never seen it used like willow for live structures/ fencing - which can be bent over with the tip and but both stuck in the earth for example
