Still suicide.

 

As soon as the bar was one third through the tree, the splits would have opened and it would have sat down hard on the bar.

 

Tom's method worked because removing the weight and sail area of the crown stabilised the splits and prevented the scenario detailed above.

High winds would have put more torsional stress on that Tree than any imbalance that section felling it will produce imho.However climbing it would be second to straight felling it from what I can see.

 

Chain and binder a few feet up and dump it.Just don't stand around and watch it go.

I reckon wedges into that split would of popped her over :)

Tom just dud it for the glory and too kill more time on the job as he had such a high price on it ;)
