I wis wile keen on a horizontal splitter, but hey ho settled for a vertical wan.

An yes I like me toys new and shiney (cept for me tractors, the rougher the better)

I wis born in Co Londonderry, an moved to Nth C Antrim, cos a moss hole backing onto the Garry boog was cheeper to purchase.

the adjacent village also had a wee bearing on the price

A negative influence that is.

PS

A mate in work has jist bought a brand new motor bike at £6000 odd so now I dinny feel so bad.

PS

Willy doon the pub wis telling ussens aboot the wee lad that grew up in D......., went to America as a young man, joined the Marine Corps, served in Vietnam, had a very bad time there, hit the bottle, finally sobered up but is now having really horrid flashbacks

This works pretty well, I tried billets and circular saw but so much double handling it drove me nuts.

This way i collect/stack it once, pick it up, into processor into bag, skidsteer onto pallets and then into the barn. done!

I have thought of this but my hiab skills would worry me so close to the Dalen operator I assume one person is loading and changing the bags.

I do the whole operation on my own, that was a big bit and as that machine can take 18 inches you have to load it with the hiab. Usually i stack the smaller bits on the flat bed and pull them on the conveyor. Its an expensive machine to get it wrong with the hiab!!!! The Dalen is so quick and with big bits i can load those 1 cube bags in minutes. the boxer skidsteer then moves it to a nearby pallet and then we start again. I also load direct into the ifor trailer and tip into the barn for bulk storage.

Thats almost exactly how we do it. I load the hilux tipper with logs until we have about 60 cu metres in the poly tunnel then fill the vent bags. I use a teleporter to hold the bags open then drop them on pallets. When the logs are dry the bobcat brings them on the pallet from the bottom field and we tip the bags out on concrete poly tunnel and scoop with bucket. Similar process with large rings. I run the chain saw andy is on the verticle splitter from large cord straight to 10" log in the bag.

I am jealous of your set up Theocus, exactly what I designed in my minds eye, but too big an investment for me.

I swithered an swithered between the Processor set up vis-a-vis the splitter and seperate saw.

Only time and experience will really give me an answer to that question.

P.S.

I have really fancied a wee Avanti tool carrier this wheen o years, to use exactly as you are.

I would sell my processor long before I sold my Vertical splitter. A splitter is a lot more useful than a processor unless u know you have 8" stuff coming in for 5 years then its a no brainer but I think half the wood we get in would not go through our HP 2x . Theocus Dalen machine is probably one of the best machines for coping with big stuff and timber with bends in it but doubt you get much change of 20k with the vat now

Our set up is similar to Theocus apart from the processor being at the end of the polytunnel as I dont like getting wet. We also load direct into IBC container frames and stack direct into the polytunnel. Delivery of IBC container either by pallet fork on the back of the tractor or 7.5 tonne curtainside with tail lift and hand pallet forks

The Dalen is brilliant, it runs a 20 inch bar and i reckon a few times we have maxed it out, it runs as most do either the 4 or six way splitter. I think the 2054 is about 16-18k plus vat this one is the 2052 and on the part ex for my circular saw worked out much cheaper!

With our boxer, fast tow trailer and arb trolley we make sure most of our wood comes back to the yard in lengths and then straight through the processor. We do have a splitter but it breaks too much be reliable. Most of our shorter wood i now sell to a few clients as it comes unsplit or cut to length. They get to play with their chainsaws and we return near enough the same money for smaller effort!

Is all about minimal handling!

Hi just wondering what type of output you get for vertical splitter? All our wood is ringed up to 8 to 10 inch then split with a cheap wessex splitter. I can do a vented cube bag in a hr. lad that works for us bout fifteen mins longer. Just been wondering if a beter splitter would improve pruductivity. Many thanks Jim

Jim its all about hydraulic flow and the splitters ram speed.

I find a 10 tonne splitter will split most pieces of 8 to 16" discs. On a JCB beaver with a 21lpm flow rate it takes us 45mins to split a cube. Hooked up to my tractor at 1800rpm i think its about 40lpm it takes 30mins. However, the tractor burns 4litres of red an hour and the beaver 0.5litres an hour. So I'm happy to loose 15mins and save money on fuel!

Matching the splitters power to the stuff you process is the way forward.
