spray bracken every august for about 6 weeks. Usually spray with knapsack where the helecopter has sprayed the previous year. |What do you need to know?

You can't buy asulux anymore, but have until end of the year to use up any remaining chemical (I think that's right) Most users stocked up before the ban came into force. NFU hope to get the ban changed. I think it was banned by europe, because of its use on spinich, and nothing to do with bracken. There is nothing elso that works as good as asulux for killing bracken. Not sure about docks.

We have some Asulox left but we normally use Grazon 90. It will kill Bracken and Docks as well as if not better than Asulox. We have about 8 litres of Asulox left but it is about 10 years old.

Iv'e used Grazon 90 on docks and it works a treat.

Never used it on bracken though. I hate using Grazon. It stinks to high heaven even with a face mask on. I really dislike using the stuff. Also, it's very expensive. It's supposed to be withdrawn from use in August 2012. I for one won't miss it.

asulox works a treat if applied correctly you need a large area for the chopper to be cost effective and good weather in forestry we can also use an ulva battery operated drift sprayer and apply neat chemical good for smaller patches under trees or napsack sprayer

dont leave it too late in the year or you will get a patchy result the green way to go is whip it early on in the year for a few years( only good on small patches) and time consuming

May I direct you to the Bracken Control Group website. This Group has been established to consider all bracken management issues, but the final trigger was the ban of Asulam (Asulox in its most common form).

The website has details about the status of the ban and what the Group is doing to maintain a supply of asulam while the application for re-registration of the chemical for bracken control takes place.

Asulam may be banned, but there is a route that we are following to maintain its availability through a series of 120-day Emergency Authorisations. There are many unknowns, but for the moment, you should plan on asulam being available.

Please contact the Group through the website if you would like to know more.
