We can argue this until the cows come home, but it won't change how I see it, and it won't change how you see it, I'm just here to moderate and help with the smooth running of the site, and I said, help look after a good friends interests. I thought by pointing this issue out rather than just deleting it, it would serve a better purpose.

No we can discuss/debate/argue about topics such as eBay. I even use eBay myself. As a moderator, I can delete any post I deem necessary, but sometimes it serves a better purpose to leave it and make use of it.

Now I think the thread has been derailed sufficiently, and we should let the thread continue.

Gonna jump in here at the risk of offending. Apologies if it does Andy.:001_smile:

I think the simple fact that customers on ebay are (on average) a lot less well informed than customers on Arbtrader would surely lead to desirable items from a well known brand as Stihl is bound to fetch more on ebay, just because there will be a fool out there willing to pay (well) over the odds?

I think Arbtrader is great for more specific, perhaps obscure items like forwarders, timber trailers etc, that won't get many "normal people" on the lookout for one.

Surely firewood demonstrates the point perfectly, the average customer will pay more than will people getting loads off other arbtalkers.

Once again, sorry if this sort of stuff makes you grumpy, but surely you cannot blame someone for choosing the extra £50 or £100 they might get on the bay?

That's not partiicularly clear. Makes it sound like you delete posts because of what you personally don't like or what might upset your friends rather than a hard and fast clear set of rules. But hey-ho.

In a nutshell what you are saying is that in one sales platform you are exclusively selling to the trade and therefore they are only willing to pay trade money and in the other you are selling to the retail public which would naturally realise more than what a trader would be willing to pay.

Pleasant, there is a hard and fast set of rules, and they are used to guide when moderating, the same as they are there to guide you when posting. My judgement is whether or not to delete a post, whether or not it fits into those rules, or whether or not I happen to like the tone of the post.

Rover the OP is selling a MS200t, this is a specialist piece of kit for a specialised job, namely tree surgery. It is not the sort of saw for a typical ebayer, ie cheap firewooding saw. If it were to be sold on Arbtrader, it is more likely to be sold to a professional who at least knows and understands how to handle it (one would hope)
