As per title really, I've a load of roadside trees to come down and just found out that the section of road they're on will be closed for a day for some roadworks a bit further up the road.

First thought was whoohoo, saved me a load of hassle as we'd planned to take the quadtrack (BIG articulated tractor, for the uninitiated) and tug them over into the field as a fair few of them have got a decent lean towards the road. The field has got autumn-sown barley in though, and it would do a fair bit of damage.

So, if the road is closed anyway, can I just drop the buggers on the road and make sure the road is clear when it re-opens? I spoke to the foreman for the road-team and all their traffic will be coming from the other side, there is one house between the trees and the works, the owner of which would not mind.

Any pitfalls in my plan?:001_smile:

Getting caught lol.

I have done it myself, the road guys were great and we let them store their kit on our job site to save them time and hassle.

I don't know the legal implications, but surely it's the safest mate

From my own experience the highways engineer over seeing the works are generally very helpfull and well up for this sort of thing as it looks good for them to have two lots of works coordinated

Find out how the highways engineer is and talk to him and get it OK'd. All he may want to know is start and finish time and your traffic management even if the road is closed people still come and drive/walk through.
