I think it's the aussies my dad said have quite a good system. there is no red diesel. all diesel is exactly the same, but farmers, forestry etc can claim the duty or whatever they call it, back.

 

in this case, that way, if you arent what they class as a legitimate user, you wouldnt get anything back. end of.

Just for the record it’s not an offence to use a mog on red provided its registration is in order.

 

The offence is carrying goods ON the mog. You can use the mog on red provided it doesn’t carry any goods (arisings). Goods can be carried in a trailer.

That's what caught the company out. They had a chipper on the 3PL, and a box full of woodchips from the job they had just done. HMRC classed it as carrying goods for reward.

I ran my unimog on red, but I only had a tiny rear body on it with chainsaws and fuel cans etc. I used it for getting a chipper into remote difficult sites for line clearance. I never used it to haul a load, as I had 'proper' trucks for that.

Why does pulling a trailer make the difference , surely this is still haulage or carrying goods'

They'll cover that by making them use seperate tanks for heating or running eiberspachers
