I have done quite alot of bare root planting in my time but I am now being asked to price more planting of shrub beds with 2/3L pots.

Im not asking people to quote for me but im interested to see if im near the mark as I dont seem to be winning many, maybe some contractors are buying the work at the moment?

 

planting 2/3L in a pre rotovated bed 5 plants per sq m, 25plants per species group I thought just under a £ a piece or am I way off?

way off we are nearer to 65p but it depends on so much, transport, soil, and supply of plants

If you are clearing a profit after your labor/material cost go for it. You may find that working with container material is a lot easier and the survival rate should also be better as well.

Hmmmm, all we do it charge for plants (factor in collection costs) and labour. Customer can see the invoice for the plants if they want, and we get them for a good wholesale price so they're happy. If it will takes half a day planting then we charge half a day labour, if it will take a whole day then we charge a whole day. When preparing the beds we usually rotavate (with the Stihl kombi attachment this is dead simple) in a good load of compost as well, and charge for that. We seem to get most of the ones we price for.

Between 55p and 75p per plant depending on conditions. Thats with no mesh guard or protection another 20p on for mesh guards with canes.

thanks for the advice, think its all down to the ground conditions and the amount of prep beforehand ie has it been rotovated
