Hi

I need a new big saw and went to order the Husky 395xp today with a 36" bar but the guys at F R Jones said that i should really only run a 28" bar on it! I thought the 395 was the husky equivalent to the ms 660?? which does run a 36" bar.

Does anyone else run a 36 " bar on the 395?? Or should i just get the 660?? I've always been a stihl man but have recently used a number of huskys which have made me change my mind about them and made me want to turn to the dark side!!

I wouldn't run a 3ft bar on a 660, I think it's too big. I know people do but for me, it lacks the balls for it.

If I needed a 3ft bar I'd be getting an 88 to run it. Job done, plus should you ever need a bigger bar, your sorted coz the power unit will run it.

Just seen another thread with a similar question. do you run a 3/8 pitch oregan bar or a 404??

Mozza the problem with the 880 is it MASSIVE and i think its a bit overkill especially when felling out sections of the main stem on a take down?? Do you not find it too big??

3/8 pitch ... Like they say it's suited to run a 28" but notice no difference in cutting speed... My thinking is its a 90cc saw and is going to handle it easy ... 88's handle far bigger bars have a slower chain speed and weigh more ... There's not many trees you can't tackle with a 36" , if they need dicing due to drop zone I would rather have a 66 or 395 up a tree or just get it down and use a hiab if not.

Ahhhh you didnt say for use in a tree haha

I rarely climb mate so I can't comment, biggest thing I ever used in it a tree was a 460 and that was about 4 years ago.

If its occasional use in a tree then like Matt says, it will do it, I've used a 395 and a 660 with a 3ft a few times for felling and even tho it did the job, I was wishing i had an 88 BUT in a tree I suppose you would need a slightly lighter saw haha
