Diesel Chainsaw on its way

I am surprised honda have not brought out a 4 stroke petrol chainsaw. I have a 4s strimmer from Honda which produces alot less fumes. Not as powerful as a proper orange strimmer but if it kills me slower I can sacrifice some performance.

I understand that they are undergoing tests, don't forget a 4t develops power in a different manner to 2t. They already do 4t hedge trimmers as well as strummers, a lot quieter and clean burning in comparison to regular hedge trimmers.

4stroke, nah think of the weight again, valves, cams lifters, heads, sump, carb systems, and if they mix oil/fuel it's just a 2stroke.

Weight difference between Honda hedge trimmer and any regular 2t trimmer is negligible, think of the gains, quieter running, less emissions, less vibes, less tired, and the Honda is a proper 4t, not a 4mix. My only concern would be how the 4t would develop the snappy power we,re accustomed to with typical 2t models.

Ever tried tipping a honda strimmer upside down when it is running?

Could always go back to the good old days if you put their current 4-stroke into a chainsaw and spin the engine through 90 deg after you have finished felling and want to ring up.

That does not rule out 4-stroke engines in chain saws. Stihl's 4-mix engines can be turned upside down while running STIHL 4-Mix Engine

The main reason for going to 4-stroke engine is emission and fuel economy. Power-to-weight ratio will be lower than 2-stroke for the foreseeable future, and with more moving parts.

That is because they are using petrol/oil mix just like the 2-strokes. It is looking like the 4-mix design was a bit of a dead end as the latest strimmers are stratified charge design. They never used the 4-mix engines on any chainsaws (pole saws excluded) or any of the pro model strimmers.

If it aint broke, dont fix it. Whats wrong with 2t, except emmisions?

Loads of revs, loads of power, loads of noise, few working parts. I love them!

Whats wrong with 4 mix?......... Poor revs, poor power, wrong noise, tappets..... i hate them!

Long live 2 stroke.

I was merely saying that not all 4-stroke engines are uni-directional like the Honda.

Neither did I claim that Stihl has used - or had any plans to use 4-mix engines on chainsaws. But future emission standards may change that.

Oh, and I would claim that the FS 130R brush cutter is a pro model that uses the 4-mix engine.

So which one of my claims are you opposing?
