Probably best to ignore this as I don't fell trees, but can you not climb up the tree, lower yourself on your climbing gear level with felling height and put a gob in with a pole saw?

 

Not a climber and dont have access to one as this is a voluntary job.

Presume its the 2nd one I would do with a plunge if I am understanding correctly? Would you need to strap round to prevent barbers chairing?

 

Yes second one as you have mentioned that putting a face cut is not possible, you cut in from both sides leaving a strip of holding wood then you cut from the back of the tree the remaining strip of holding wood, you need to cut fast and you will need to be careful, it's also a good cut to use on very heavy lateral branches but again great care must be taken.
