I really like the look of that socket. :001_cool:

We drop ours in a hole the same as yours then put wooden wedges down the side to secure it.

Yeah, we still do that with the other two trees, but the socket is easy and works really well.

Will try and replace the others for next year.

Had this socket for a couple of years now. :thumbup1:

Just come back from Kielder Forest, 560 miles to choose two Christmas trees! Choice was limited this year but managed to pick out these two – what do you think??

The view across the water is Kielder Dam, not much of a picture as the weather was pretty awful.

Kielder water is awesome isnt it. 28(?) square mile reservoir, made to supply the industrial north and midlands with water............but as we have no industry it is now a beautiful puddle. Went there as a youngster, loved northumberland.

Couldn't someone from Kielder forest pick one them for you John?? I find it quite bizzare to travel all that way to choose a tree

Yes they could mate, but I’ve picked the trees for the last 9 years – if we get a couple of Duff ones my head would be on the block! These aren’t the best I’ve had but if they arrive un-scathed they should be ok.

Was chatting to the forester and asked him if they get much theft – apparently not, although they do have big problems with people driving up in box vans and filling them up with fire-wood!

There used to be a little xmas tree planting near us John, but within a few years the word went round and everyone helped themselves, nothing left there now!!

Same down here last year- stocks ran out and there were guys camping in fields as security for the last few days B4 christmas day!!!

Just missed you there John! I just walked past it 2 days ago on the Hadrian's wall walk!

How far did you walk MrT? I got soaked today, only took one pair of boots and had to drive back in soaking wet socks!
