I luv my new 261

As French customer service is generally rather poor and repairs often exorbitant it is cheaper for me to simply buy spare saws and send the ones for repair back to the U.K.

Just why are we here then eh?

Cos the houses are about half price of UK with about 5 times more land?

they have a health service that actually works

roads are generally very good

wine is cheaper than petrol, but then most things are!

to name a few

 

& yes, French customer service can be dismal!

I know I should know but I dont so here goes, me making a fool of myself. What are needle bearings:blushing:

just recently got a 261 - doing my cs 30/31 at the moment, felled a few trees today, amazing saw! fair bit of power, would like to get hold of a husky 346 and do a comparison

i had a 026 to begin with and didnt notice any difference in weight, just that the 261 cuts alot more quickly.

 

Big mark, i think the needle bearing (being spoken about in this case) is the one on the crank shaft, which you will see as you take off the sproket/clutch housing. so far my one is okay (touch wood) but i did notice that the housing of the bearing is black plastic, and that it isnt greased up! guessing thats becuase its close to the clutch, going to put a dab of grease on it though, heat will murder it otherwise.

the clutch drum runs on needle bearing,which should be greased on a regular basis.

on the 261 for some reason the cage of the needle bearing is plastic and the rollers are metal,when we used the saws for forestry work,the plastic case would melt,hence needle bearing a write off:001_huh:

 

on husky the needle bearing is all metal

Mind you- top marks to stihl for otherwise making a great saw

What is the max bar size you guys using on this saw

though praps thats not a good question as maybe larger bar would create more needle bearing problems

I tell you something...

I pay 283euros for a flat yet recieve 248euros in housing benefit.

Thats true friend.

The price of wine? No interest to me.

Yet here in France I have never earned so much in my life.

The potential here is enormous for an entreprise with an Anglo orientated philosophy.

Despite the 60%social charges life is better here than in the U.K.

I still buy all my equipment in the U.K and French customer service is still almost non existant. When my 261 wears out it will not be replaced by one from a French supplier but from Honey Bros.

Discount or deal has no equivelant in French har har...

I cannot understand why Stihl would make a plastic houseing

 

TY I'm glad someone is making some money here, I seem to work my ass off all day five days aweek and then do quotes on a weekend and I never seem to have any money. MSA take €800 a month of me, the tax here is nothing really it's the social charges here that kill it.

 

Dont get me wrong it's a better life here and I would never go back but its hard work. I think my problem is I'm on my own here, could do with a young lad from collage 3 days a week, might look into that.

One more thing in favour of living down in the south west is the winters are very short and I get to raz my motorbike around these lovely quiet twisty roads:thumbup:
