My mate and I are looking for a wood in North Essex, ideally Colchester area to buy. We want to tidy it up, regenerate and generally mess about in.

Anybody know how we might go about finding one or know of any for sale?

Cheers:thumbup:

Best of luck with that in general you are going to be looking at around the £10k an acre mark for woodland around here now.

I do know of a piece but tbh am after it myself, but if it falls through I will let you know.

Ok it's rant time.

Woodland.co.uk have a hell of a lot to answer for in my opinion, in their for sale section there is 3 lots that are now sold in alresford, they form part of a really stunning 49 acre ancient wood that was recently sold, that wood is now going to be ruined with everybody thinking they can do what they like with it and fences going everywhere.

Some might call it sour grapes but I know that particular woods quite well (then called stable & mill woods) and knew that because the rides split it up so nicely (roughly into 9 pieces) it would be ideal woodland for woodland.co.uk to buy and put on again and I really didn't want to see it go the way it has, unfortunately you can't outbid someone with as much money as they have to spend and make it a viable proposition, but yet again it's another great woodland that in my opinion will be ruined, speaking to the local FC they are of the same opinion and hate to see woodlands split up this way, with fences all over the place, I would rather have seen someone else own the woods if not me than to see it go this way, but I also know it's the way of the world and there is bugger all you can do about it.

I would like to know the legal standing as to right of way to a woods like the one I have mentioned, as far as I am aware when the woods was sold the right of way was granted to one owner for access to the woods and for forestry vehicles, but now the access will be used by lots of people, I believe it's called "enhancing a right of way" but wonder how the right of way owners feel about this or if they have even thought about it.

I have come to the conclusion I am not the only person who feels like this about woodland.co.uk as I have noticed that near halstead in essex someone has gone to the trouble of climbing a tree to spray over one of thier sign's.

Unfortunately it' not just with woodland and sadly the Tendring area is now covered with fenced off one acre horse paddocks with stupid looking sheds, and the whole area is now looking hideous.

Rant over.

They want 12k an acre, isn't this a bit over the top? Thought the going rate was 6k per acre? Scraggs- details would be great if it falls through.

Cheers

It's over the top in our eyes but someone was willing to pay it, whether they manage to sell the rest of it remains to be seen.

It would be nice if you could find land around here at £6k an acre, if you do and there is more than you want please let me know about it.
