Unimog u1600 Ignition - solenoid problem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys i have a problem that my mog will not start using the ignition , after having a good look round i have found that there is a live into the ignition switch , a live from the ignition to the starter motor and a live out to the starter solenoid BUT there is no live at the solenoid end of the wire ! i have tested the clutch safety switch and found it to be working but i am at a loss as to what to do next as the wires then go back into the loom never to be found again ! To top it all of the solenoid wire came loose from the ignition switch so my workmate decided to clean the terminl up while i went to get some more solder , when i got back i soldered the wire back on and dont you know now there is now no live coming out on the terminal that the solenoid wire goes onto !!!

Im now tearing my hair out as i have spent got knows how many hours on it and i only seem to be going backwards . Can anyone help ??

Thanks in advance - Dave

My 1000 had a few wiring issues looming when we parted. Old wiring that had age hardened meant that there was the odd break in the ignition circuit which did take a lot of tracing. Sorry Dave, get the test meter out and do loads of continuity tests!

Thanks guys , i was not sure if this mog had a pto safety swithch but i guess i had best get the spot light out and get hunting for it ! it was a suprise to find that who ever owned the mog before me had taken the clutch safety switch off and stuch a fencing stapel in it !!! if all elts fails i will have to order a new ignition switch and run a bypass from the last safety switch to the soleoid but in all honesty im none to keen on doing that and i cant fine the bloody wires ha ha !!!!!!!
