split tail knots

when the proverbial hits the fan and someone leaves everything (hitch cords etc )in the ayrd apart from one climbing line it means you can still get on with the job. i'm talking from experience

I'd like to know how many people can climb with just a rope and no form of split tail, prussik, or even another short length of rope? :001_smile:

I was told that they are the basics and if you can tie them you can work a tree. every other knot is just refining and improving the system.

it also allows you to climb with the other end of your rope if needed

the very first part of cs38 is to tie a 3 knot system,

i was always told if you dropped you prussick(major climbing errors if you did) or cut it maybe up a tree you could get yourself down!!!

 

Most carry spare loops or cord but it could happen.
