Blakes is better than a tautline, a Shannon is just blakes tied wrong.

blakes is better than a prussic as it doesnt slip as much

How come, at college they only teach 3 knots: prussick, figure of eight and bowline? when there are so many others to use? Out of interest...

I was told that they are the basics and if you can tie them you can work a tree. every other knot is just refining and improving the system.

Thats what we were told as well Jamie. It separated those that wanted to actually go out and learn that little bit more.

when the proverbial hits the fan and someone leaves everything (hitch cords etc )in the ayrd apart from one climbing line it means you can still get on with the job. i'm talking from experience
