hello guys just a quick question, I have reciently passed my cs39 and I was wondering how anybody else positions their anchor points for branch cutting as I still find it extremely uncomfortable to hold the saw and to stop myself from moving slightly while cutting. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I have my main anchor point high up in the tree and a secondary anchor point on the branch above the one that I am working on. I just need advice on the best strop and secondary anchor point positions to get in order to be able to work comfortabley.

There is a certain amount of discomfort in this line of work. It sounds like you are doing everything technically right, the rest will come with practice. It takes a while to learn to keep your ropes organised and fluidity only comes with time in the saddle. Most people seem to make hard work of the simplest tasks while climbing at the start. There are rare exceptions to this of course.

Who are you working for? Is there an experiences climber on hand to ask this question to? By the sound of it I would have to see you climb to see if there is something you can improve on. Maybe you are placing your secondary anchor too far away?

think you need to get your paper work out & read it all again, or go do a refresher course ,

this should have been explained & demonstraited in the classroom shouldnt it ,

Hard work aint easy mate, being comfy isnt part of what we do. Sounds to me like you just need practice, your second anchor point doesnt need to be above you, it can be to the side, front, back or even below. The main thing to go for is having your main workline as high as possible and the secondary strop should be wherever you can get it that will make your balance easier to maintain. Sometimes you need to have it pulling away from your main line in the opposite direction which will hold you in the middle. Just keep practising and try lots of different positions for your strop and you will get it eventually.
