Hi,

I have just booked my place to do my CS30/31, I currently have an MS 171 but I will need a saw that runs a 15" bar to complete the felling bit of the CS31. Cash is tight so im looking for a saw to do this but I would rather buy an older "Pro" saw than something newer that isnt as well built as I hate buying things twice! Does anyone have anything kicking around in the back of their workshop?? Max budget is about £100, I know im asking alot but if someone could help me out then it would be greatly appreciated!:)

Regards

Anthony.

Unfortunately not from the one i booked with, i booked with them cause the next nearest training place is 60 miles away! Also I would rather put the money I would pay to hire one towards getting my own saw as im prob gonna need one after i hopefully pass!

i dont think you are going to much my with £100

Unfortunately, I concur with this, you are looking at £150 for a runner and up to £200 for a good one.

£100 territory is the MS181/Husky141 - sorry.

You may get an old Husky that just needs a little tlc for this price!

speak to your instructor! im in the same position as you, bought a 026 with a 16" bar and asked the instructor if i would need to get a smaller bar, he said you can do the cs30/31 with a 16+" bar but the 'paperwork' hasnt been updated yet stating that...

he did say it might be abit more difficult de-limbing close do the ground though...

hope this helps!

I'd stick with your 171 bud.I did my 30/31 with a 017 , no problems whatsoever.OK it's not going to win any prizes for raw power but it's a perfect saw for what you'll be doing which is neat accurate cuts .Easy , light and extremely maneouvreable.Excellent for boring through and dead good for snedding. My assessor had never used one before but loved it and grabbed it to demonstrate cuts whenever he could.Maybe the only thing you could buy , which I did , was a new bar and chain.I still reach for it when snedding and processing small timber , very light and easy on my back

Oh and good luck on the assessment , you'll love it :thumbup1:
