Just wondering what variations people use with a basic pre tied prussik knot e.g. with pulleys etc, really intrests me what ways in which it can be adapted to make life easier or just different.

I know its a basic knot and theres far better/ easier ways to climb. Just wondering peoples techiques with prussik

If people have any pictures that would be brilliant

Thank you

Prussiks are used to climb on but it's such hard work. Seriously, look through the other threads to compile lots of info, then you're better informed to make your own judgment and decision.

Then buy a Lockjack as they're the best!

you can make a slack tender for a prusik by taking a length of starter cord and making a small prusik loop,

Then tie a prusik with the starter cord above the spliced eye or knot on your rope then get a small tool clip karabiner and clip it to the small prusik,

Then place a micro pulley under your main climbing prusik and attach it to the small prusik via the tool clip then slide the small prusik so it's above your main climbing prusik.

Sounds very confusing, sorry, but it's good for long accents because all you have to do is pull on the tail of your rope and body thrust and the pulley will move the main prusik for you, hope this helps.

here's a pic I found on google, looks like it's done with a distal though instead of a prusik.

i'd rather have a hitch climber than that messy set up, it does exactly the same job, but better.

and for long ascents i sometimes add a small (50cm) webbed sling between the harness bridge and hitchclimber. that way you have the climbing system far enough away to be able to pull the tail.

okay everybody laugh , i always use a prussik loop to climb on ,i've try'ed combo's and other hitches but always come back to it ,it makes your body very strong all that thrusting and stuff and theres never any slack, if it tightens (very rare) then it's 2 seconds to loosen up ,loosen it up a lot and your very fast in the crown.

prob second best prussik loop hitch would be a klemhiest but it's a bit tight, a very good hitch is a french prussik but you need a tail ,spiced eye at each end, best to practice the lenth you need by tying off first before you get it made and it needs to be thin rope nothing over 8mill ,it's super fast.
