good evening all went to test station today for annual test on our 7,5 ton leyland daf all was going well until very last part of test passed until then , the parking brake reached 11% 12% is a pass so test man says hard luck you failed by 1% so i asked could he give it another go ok 9% ? so i say how come the difference shrug of shoulders dont know so not happy now ask for a complaint form , they couldnt find one we test brakes again 6% whats going on very annoyed by now if i appeal wagon cant be moved until a expert comes to inspect ! THE WAGON IS WELL MAINTAINED AND WE HAVE OPERATORS LICENSE garage where we take wagon equally frustrated have similar tales of test woe sorry rant over

contact the powers that be could be there break tester is faulty.

My stepdad is a hgv mechanic he had 3 truck fail for breaks wen they went back to garage and tested on there machine totaly diferant reading mite wannt extra cash from retest.

look under dash near steering wheel, you'l see wire for foot brake solenoid that activates your brake lights.... cut it in half and put a male female joiner in it... pull wire up.. slide steerin column towards seat and tuck wire behind column..... go back for retest.... do brake test as normal but once you've done rear brakes on roller pull wire apart.... when he says "hand brake on" put your foot hard down on foot pedal too.... works every time....!!

agree totally new cables shoes and actuator fitted last year ! very frustrated re test tomorrow

Yes, someone has to be in it to opperate the brakes when asked

agreed it can be frustrating ive had vehicles fail a complete retest on things that were the present on and didnt fail the original test.

yeah.. you can spend 600 quid on cables and shoes and perhaps drums and once you done that your brake readin will be worse cos they've not bedded in.... all to get an extra 1% on the machine... with a brake readin of around 9% you wouldnt move those wheels if towed with a 300hp tractor... i spent 6 or 7 yrs testin at least 2 7.5 ton 45 series daf lorrys a month [as horseboxes] and that was biggest problem with their brakes... tryin to fix something thats not actually broken..

is there any adjustment that can br done ,you need a rolling road to test them properly,does yr garage have1,
