i did a days work as an instructor at myerscough. i was chatting to a few students and they were winging that they were getting £100 a day climbing for local companies. they said they should be on nearer £200 a day. one of the other instructors asked me what i'd be willing to pay. i told them that with there vast experience and knowledge i'd give them £70a day feeding a chipper. it didn't go down well. basiclly colleges are telling students you can earn £££££££ a day which is wrong!

That's insane. £70 would be spot on. nearer to £200!! I don't know what to do with that information.

Who let them think that they could expect anything over £100?

Thats crazy ! I'll do anything (and have done) for £150!

£150 a day or for a night shift, sometimes goes to £180 if it is abig job or like last nite when it poured down from midnight to 8 in the morning on a rail job.

I am employed through the week and freelance on weekends, always work under which ever companies PL insurance etc but have to find my own personal insurance from this.

I have over 15 years experiance and still wouldn't expect £200 per day in the north east for just turning up with my climbing/rigging gear and saws, unless there was a prior arangement regarding the job.

A mate of mine came to do some work for me, he wanted £200/day. It was at a weekend. Apparently any less and he'd earn the same working for his firm working a weekend.

Having said that though he's an absolutely awesome climber and was more than worth it.

He turned up with harness, rope and saw.

It's obviously possible but you've got to be good. They also get paid by the job rather than per day so effectively piecework.
