Short term / low mileage insurance

Quick query - I'm out of the UK at the moment, but when I am home for Christmas I want to be able to get my Isuzu Trooper out on the road to blow the cobwebs off it.

 

It is currently insured but the cover will expire on new year's day; I am undecided whether to insure it again for another year TPFT, or to look for some short term cover just for while I am home. When I'm not around it is locked up, with a crooklock, behind locked gates, so I am not so concerned about security.

 

Anyone got any recommendations for insurance providers either specialising in short term cover (couple of weeks in Jan) or that will do e.g. max 2,000 miles per year cover??

could you not just get an extension on the policy say for 1 month

 

ive just insured(added a driver) my truck for a mate to use with a trailer for a day £15

To be honest, I've always found that when you try and get insurance companies to do short term policies for say a month or so, its never that cost effective.

 

Whilst I was at uni, my parents would add me to their car insurance for a few weeks each time I was home outside of term time. In the end it ended up being far cheaper to keep me as a named driver all year.

 

I know its a different set of circumstances, but don't rule out that a whole years policy might be just a cheap and may be useful to you if this situation crops up again during the year.

Thanks all, looks like we'll be back in the UK sooner than planned (i.e. part way through next year) so I've decided just to get the beast insured for the year again, saves messing about.
