The voucher thing was tried, you use to get vouchers for clothes and furniture from the dole it was like a provident cheque thing, one of the pubs I worked in would swop the vouchers at half there value for drink and fags behind the counter then sell the vouchers on. They also use to take milk tokens that were given by the dole for there kids:thumbdown:

I never worked there long it was a horrible place.

Some realy valid points here about getting people out to work & changing the attitudes of those who chose not to work,& the system that encourages/nurtures that mindset.

I think the government is too cumbersome to sort it out,and too sensitive to the oposition harking on about 'unfair this & human rights that'.

I would love to know what percentage of people get a free roof & ride through life,& how much of our resources are used up to this avail, must be one hell of a drain on the system.

There are those who by circumstance cannot find a way to improve their situation, but its all too easy for the freeloaders to hide amongst them, the system is too cumbersome,& these people are actualy quite good at it!:001_smile:

Sorry Steve, I did not mean to start a hijacking.

I'm all for training and govt assistance to those real employers with real jobs. Kids leaving school should have been aiming or aspiring to a work role for quite a while. Their parents and schools should have helped them to start and map out their future. But it would seem that that has got lost, perhaps citizenship needs to be instilled as a major part of there learning. Perhaps a form of conscription or voluntary work should replace the benefit system whereas at the moment people get something for nothing and think it is their right!

getting a good youngin is hard these days - i also run a garage and we have had 6 young college spraypainters who think they know it all and are usless - and i had to pay them 100 a week from day1 ... couldnt even earn me that and couldnt make tea , now theres a fail straight away.

maybe the 7th will be good --- hope the first tree youngin is a good un.

myself started on a yts in 90's ,got £29 a week, of that £10 board/£10 travel/£10 fine per week so £1 down per week... it lead to an apprietiship at porshce thou ... worth the days i would have been on street corners

I first started on a YOP scheme in the early 80s with Warwickshire county Land Agent

Planting trees, felling trees putting up fences and working in the woodlands.

A very good year of my life not much money lots of hard work.

That is what got me into this kind of work and I still love it 30 years later.

I was keen as mustard but broke more stuff than anyone I have ever met, had loads of close shaves but I was always on time and enthusiastic.

there should also be training for employers on how to manage staff correctly .

so many jobs end sour due to poor comunication and a clash of personalities.
