No maybe I didn't iterate... Im in a huge oak, and retie my tip as you say, with a bowline, I aint gonna be going back up at the end of the climb to ddrt down at the end... Can you make it retrievable from the ground?

Yes. I would recommend an alpine butterfly though. If you have come down more or less straight it should pill out from the ground.

Easy, get murphs skid loader on your line and snap the top anchor out, thus pulling it to the ground. Also this gives it a nice bit of natural fracture pruning

 

You could as i have started to do i tie my final point in with a dmm ring, this has less resistance than rope on rope. You can tie a bit of throwline into this too to help pull it down at the end, Sometime though if im not going back it will be midway alpine butterfly on the dead end so it reaches the ground and can pull the system out at the end.

Cheers guys. Mistahben if you tie the alpine butterfly midline when you reach the ground you can pull on the dead end of the rope thus retreiving your anchor point

Its very easy to tie and its in the knots section of arbtalk and its alot easier to tie mid line than a running bowline. plus its retreivable but you have to follow the route of the dead end otherwise its hard to retreive because of the friction from rope on rope and the branch.

A tad off topic, but whilst deadwooding a crap load of limes and oaks today, i was retrieving my line and drt-ing down to the ground. After the 3rd tree was complete i decided not to take out the RW and actually found it made the LJ amazing to use, no initial jump or force required to break the bend in the cam, off i went and at some speed too. So basically it can be used to modify drt lines with the LJ if you want (not saying that you do ok). Might look at someway of holding the RW up a bit away from the LJ too sometimes if you move your weight off the RW moves about into neutral (SRT), but i always check before allow weight on the line.

Never got on well with that setup myself, I've tried it when retrieving the same as you did. I've always found it creates far too much friction. Were you using a cambium saver with it?
