Anyone got any postgraduate awards on here like an MSc, postgraduate diploma/ certificate? What were your experiences of the course and did they help you get a job.

The distance learning MSc in Forestry looked good offered by Bangor university

Reason for asking is that ive got a BSc (hons) in environmental management but like many others im finding it hard to get a job (also have cs30-31) and since graduating iv set up a firewood business and am getting a lot more interested in forestry in general (just like being out in the woods really)

Cheers for any guidance on the subject

I have a MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Glamorgan, I did it in 1yr full time, which actually equated to 2days a week taught lectures.

Yes its helped me no end in jobs as its show the willingness to work to a higher academic level. I also learnt more in 1year on my MSc than in 3yrs on my BSc in Environmental Protection.

If your looking at pure forestry then do the forestry Degree but if you ever want to work in other aspects of conservation then a less specific degree may be more beneficial, then you can specialise in your chosen area.

Hi Hawk Eye,

I am half way through a part-time MSc course. The content is very interesting and stimulating but personally I have found the standard of lecturing and resources to be mixed and generally not as good as when I did my BSc at a larger University.

I hope that it will lead to good things though - having an MSc takes you a decent way to becoming chartered which is a personal goal for me.

It is a hell of a lot of work though - I have a full time job and a young family so the commitment sometimes feels like a millstone. I am looking forward to finishing!

Cheers,

Paul

What and where you studying Paul? Bristol Uni does a few good course, localish too. Still driving a two hour round trip for a lecture 1-2 days per weeks will still eat into the finances.

Ian

I'm doing MSc Arb and Urban Forestry at Myerscough in Preston. It's about 2.5-3 hours each way from where I live. Bristol Uni sounds like an attractive option - what do they do that's arb related?
