Routine and a cold room works OK for me. I tend to keep awake because of repetative noises; dripping tap, ticking clock, barking dog or the bass of a stereo. Fortunately we don't get too much noise here but those noises annoy the hell out of me. Going to get me a white noise machine to help. Otherwise, old age works well. I used to go to bed at midnight, then that got pushed back to 11 then 10.30 and now I hit the hay at about 9 - 9.30. I sometimes wake up through the night to take a leak or because my nose is palying up but I usually still feel pretty good when I get up at 6. The routine thing I think helps most of all.

With out being rude can ask if the guys with sleep apnoea are quite heavy???

As I understand it, its caused by fat around the throat or can slim guys get it too???

It's not only fat/overweight people that can have sleep apnoea but being overweight certainly doesn't help. It's caused by the muscles in the throat relaxing as you sleep thus constricting the airway and not letting you get a deep restful sleep.

I'm not sure that I have sleep apnoea - I'm in very good shape and very rarely snore. Certainly worth checking out though.

Mercifully, I spelt like an absolute baby last night - 11 hours. Woke up just after 10am with no recollection of waking through the night. I have a night's sleep like that maybe once every couple of months.

I never, ever sleep past 6.15 (the time my alarm goes of in the week) I do love looking at the clock and going back to sleep though, but even on a Sunday I never manage to sleep past 8AM.
