Treated myself to a 346xp yesterday and all i can say is wow!

I asked the dealer about running in the saw but he said there is no requirement.

Anyone got a different opinion?:confused1:

Thanks

First 5-10 tankfulls use mineral 2-stroke oil in the mix not synthetic; i.e. stihl hp (red) not ultra etc. Every saw I've run in on synth has never run as sweetly or in fact lasted as long as those I've run-in on mineral. Avoid supermarket fuel if you want to be really precise.

Thanks for the replies gentlepeople. I live in the sticks and only have a shell petrol station so no worries there. Is this ok, Oils and Lubricants | Husqvarna Two-Stroke oil - Willis and Grabham ?

I have the stihl full system and I see the chain oil doesn't fit, bit of a bummer.

It's fine. Not mineral for the ultimate break-in period tho :sneaky2:

Read your manual: on page 17 it says: "Avoid running at too high speed for extended periods for the first ten hours" (wich is dissapointingly bad English)

Then on page 29:"after the saw has been "run in" the carburettor should be finely adjusted."

Congrats, it's a lovely saw.

A-ha I see it. I'll run the stihl HP 2 stroke oil but I don't think I'll be playing with the carb settings as described in the book.

If it aint broke I won't be fixing it!

Thanks.

If you havent got a tach, tuning this saw will be very difficult - it probably has a blue limited coil that limits the revs to 14,100rpm which makes it difficult to tune by ear and makes tach tuning difficult - that's why I put a black one on my tuned one - 14,600rpm:thumbup:
