One of the theorys behind this event is to engage company owners in the development of staff knowledge, so by having it on a weekend what it says is okay, as employees you are not going to be getting paid for this learning, however if you want you can go, and as a gesture from employers, they would consider the option of paying for it.

So, if the content of the event is such that it would very much be in the interest of employers to send staff on this reasonably priced event, then they may pay for employees to attend, in the knowledge that they will be receiving a wealth of valuable knowledge to their company and contracting operation.

So, if your gaffer was paying for you hama, would you go? dont forget there are many arborists who have no interest in this sort of thing and are just there for the job and the money, those that are interested may persuade gaffers to pay and highlight the interest of others to it,

So, to company owners, what would you pay for, for your staff to attend to get value for your money for you sending your staff?

This is a difficult question really, we all as companies have our special interests, and different bosses/employees have different aspirations goals and interests. One only has to look at this forums members to see the shear diversity of aspects of arboriculture. I actualy was thinking the other day about who i would have in an arb "dream team" from the A.T members!

It is a good question, for me personaly it isnt the price that determines my attendance but the quality of the information, and im geting VERY fussy about this lately! i would be hard to please!

The camping aspect will draw more folk in for sure, we arbs love a bonfire, add a pig roast and we will come for the social aspect as much as the lectures and demos.

I would suggest starting another thread to get the attention drawn to the question direct.

as for topics, the trick is avoiding them being dry in delivery and engaging, if you want to present to arbs who might not engage "further information" otherwise.

Is that not a bit negative mate? How many arb shows, events and seminars have I and a few others been to down south? Everything is with an input if it helps the industry IMO, the more people attend the better.

Sorry, that last post may read as if it was aimed at cost of attendence, the cost is currently being broken down to the bare penny, to ensure that this is ran as a cost effectively as possible for arborists, the what would you pay for was in relation to what topics would wet the appetites of company owners, so much so that it would be foolish for them to not support the attendance of employees to the type of event anticipated.

My gaffa has no need to pay for my CPD, I wasnt getting enough so took on my own path and so there is little point for his purpose:sneaky2:

would i go? yes, to support the AA and this very worthy cause, and yes I would of course as always encourage others to attend.:thumbup1:

A word of warning-

At the capel/ISA arborcamp show this spring FREE seminars and good ones at that where on offer, the attendance was low, 10-15 present.

It is not easy to engage them, i think they dont see the value in spending a few hours of their time learning about new stuff:blushing:

They would rather drink beer and throw axes!

But if you lure them to such an event, I will as I said after the ISA show at capel come along with the sole purpose of tiying them up and dragging them to the lecture hall!:thumbup1:

Hopefully with good feedback from the industry, there will be a wide range of topics being talked about and discussed, so there should be something for everybody.

I think this may be a little different from the isa show, in that you will be gagged upon arrival, and there after between 9.30-5pm.

What about if a business bank manager was there telling people how to set up and run our own businesses, also what about someone giving helps and hints on how to create and market a business, hoe to create or recognise a good advert, I do not mean someone from arboriculture, but someone who has specialist advice and services for their particular occupation.

Like Arborists, have particular skills and experience,so do the right people talking about their topic, because its what they do, not that they have a little bit of knowledge in the chosen topic attained whilst working for a council.

I spoke to my boss today about this, and he said that for him to pay to send staff there it would need to be worthwhile financialy. he says that most stuff is avaliable as leasflet/toolbox talk sessions. So it looks like from a employers position it would have to cover say one of the refresher sessions we all need from time to time, like first aid which is 75£ a pop, get that thrown in to the bargain and it becomes a viable option for employers.

First aid, bat workshop, rigging workshops where all mentioned but would need to have documented CPD attached so as to cover the legal bits emploers have to do to ensure their staff are informed and up to date.

as for being gagged, from 9.30 till 5 30 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
