Never heard of it! Can any of your tutors footlock? Theres nothing like having some hands on tuition.

I can free climb footlock on a double rope no problem with no knot, introduce the knot and it all goes pear shaped

are you using a long enough strop dean? footlocking with a strop is no different...if set right you just ignore it and just slide your hands up the rope, the hitch will advance as a matter of course

Probably whats wrong Steve, I'm tending to put my weight on the knot and tightening it up so it's awkward to shove up

Seriously, Scott Forrest showed me how to footlock last year. He was up there faster than a squirrel, using a Klemheist. Can't seem to do it like him though. Always try and avoid setting my line away from the butt. Try a modified technique where you bend your knee, step into a loop in your line and stand up. Saves those biceps.

I do this when I get tired, I am very naturally un-gifted at footlocking!. I've tried and tried but I just can't do it. Best thing to do is buy a Petzl Pantine foot-clogger and get the ground to hold the line untill you get up high enough for the ropes weight to work for you.
